“The Living Walls Of Bushwick”
Bushwick, NY, holds a special place in our hearts. While the whole of NY has a huge art history, there is no graffiti culture quite like Bushwick’s. Growing up there, you would see tags and murals scattered all over the place. These pieces would become landmarks, so as soon as you saw that piece, you knew you were home. The home of variety, as well as immigrants, there are many different subject matters that are the focal point for these pieces. Whether it’s the pride of your birth country or cool mashups of popular superheroes, everything you could dream of seeing resides here. Unfortunately, unless you are a local, you won’t know where to find specific pieces you may have heard about, which means the art is only seen by its local community. To counter this, we created a collective of Bushwick’s most iconic pieces in order to honor and bring attention to those artists who have made our community really feel like “home”.

Given how subways are a huge part of New York culture, our website's main form of interactivity resides in this custom train, where you can drag to scroll, and as you scroll further in either direction, more pieces are shown. These are clickable overlays that showcase not only the location of the pieces but also serve as a form of communication to the artist, allowing you to show your support or hire them. Seeing as the purpose of this project is to help local artists grow, we found it critical that every artist shown is credited for their work.
